RATA (/raa.tuh/)

RATA (/raa.tuh/)

RATA (/raa.tuh/) is a decolonial media, culture and mutual aid network operating across the Pacific. RATA (translated to "smoke") is decentralised and unofficial, with as much room to grow as there are people in our communities.

This first event marks the launch of our presence in so-called syd, and the first volume of RATA magazine. Our event is structured around giving platform to performers and mutual aid.

We acknowledge the ongoing destruction wrought by colonialism around the Pacific and across the globe, along with the strength of sovereign resistance to it. In light of this we hope to aid that struggle on a local and international level, proliferating it culturally by making space to highlight resistance, and existence.

This is also the idea behind the simultaneous launch of our portable coffee house operation. We will rely on coffee sources from sovereign suppliers in the Pacific, aiding Indiginomics across the region. Our food and baked goods sales will contribute directly to mutual aid funds. The space itself operates as a way to give social space, and host workshops/groups/open mics and other activities for community.

Please join us in February, in the evening of the 13th or during the day between the 12th and 14th to help make our Rata launch successful and be involved. We gather around the anniversary of the spearing of the coloniser — jimmy cooker — to celebrate, remember and honour anti-colonial resistance.

The Red Rattler Theatre stands on Aboriginal land. We acknowledge the traditional owners and pay our respects to Elders past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded.
