‘Vital Signs’
A Deaf-led artistic event that invites D/deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing audiences to celebrate Deaf culture in an innovative and inclusive space. Angie Goto is an artist with a unique sensory perspective on the world around her. The languages of colour, shape, movement, and gesture are pivotal to her artistic expression and form the foundation of how she communicates through both figurative and abstract art. Born Deaf, Angie has an insight into the world that many others do not.
‘Vital Signs’ is the result of her Red Rattler Artist-in-Residence program—a highly experimental expansion of her painting practice, integrating live performance in collaboration with Jamaica Moana and interactive technology in collaboration with Vivienne Linsley. Vital Signs explores themes of self-expression, identity, communication, bravery, and Deaf rights, delving into the profound connection between personal experience and collective voice.
Following the Vital Signs exhibition performance, the event will feature a vibrant showcase of visual vernacular artists, with more performances to be announced. This will be an unforgettable experience that opens new pathways for connection and understanding—don’t miss out!
