LEZSPLOITATION

Fri Jul 30 2010

Perv presents a scintillating double bill with your host Sister Muscle Mary. A cornucopia of sleazy Sapphic cinematic delights! Sex crazed nuns, horny prison inmates, hypnotic lesbian vampires and so much more!

Triple X Selects the Best of Lezsploitation (2007)
This is a rare chance to see this stimulating documentary from Michelle Johnson (AKA Triple X). This film brings together some of the most amazing clips from Johnson's extensive collection of lezsploitation films from the 1960's to the early 80's. Reclaimed and reappropriated by queer audiences, these moments from made-for-straight-men movies committed to Sapphic desire are complimented by music from the era and a tongue in cheek "scientific" commentary. Guaranteed to arouse, inform and entertain. Runtime: 48 minutes

Images in a Convent (1979)
Touted as the "sleaziest" nunsploitation of all time, this 70's Italian gem directed by Joe D'Amato explores what happens behind convent walls. Set in an isolated convent, where the nuns are seemingly possessed by the devil to do naughty things to themselves and each other, this film is certainly thin on plot but makes up for it in its commitment to largely unmotivated scenes of eroticism. Delightful ridiculousness intermingled with some genuinely hot moments make this a lezsploitation classic. Runtime: 85 minutes

This event is a fundraiser for our November festival.

SPUNK SHOTS

Wed Aug 4 2010 - Wed Aug 25 2010

Forget another Wednesday night in with the idiot box and crappie takeaway food. Get ya bootie down to the Red Rattler for some yummie home made soup, popcorn and kick back to some great cinema!

Each Wednesday night in August SPUNK will be bring you films that challenge the way we think about masculinity.

On 4 August, SPUNK presents:
Assume Nothing (New Zealand, 2009)

DIRECTOR: Kirsty MacDonald
RUNNING TIME: 80 mins

Focusing on the art, photography and performances of five 'alternative' gender artists of Maori, Samoan-Japanese, and European descent, Assume Nothing poses the questions: "What if "male" and "female" are not the only options? How do other genders express themselves through art?" Intimate present-day interviews and actuality are interspersed with lush Super-8, 2-D and 3-D animations and beautifully staged performances.

Meticulously crafted, playful and provocative, Assume Nothing travels from Wellington’s Red Rocks to the Metroplitan Museum of Art in New York to explore the potent creative world that flourishes between and beyond gender.

Doors open at 7.00pm and free soup available (while it lasts) until Movie starts at 8pm. Popcorn available. Bar open from 7 - 10 pm.
