VICE and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Present

Australiana: 'Island Queens' Special Advance Screenings

To support the launch of the second episode in VICE's Australiana series, 'Island Queens' (released August 16th on we are partnering with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on an exclusive preview showing at Sydney's The Red Rattler.

An inspiring documentary, ‘Island Queens’ sees VICE spending time in the Northern Territory with the Sistergirls of the Tiwi Islands—a gay and trans Indigenous community who make up more than five percent of the island’s population. 80km north of the Australian mainland, many of the inspirational community live publicly as women, observing local Indigenous traditions and looking for love and happiness.

VICE first met the Sistergirls at the 2017 Mardi Gras parade and together with the LGBTIQ+ organisation hope to help the girls return again in 2018. To that end, entry to the screenings will be via donation, with all money raised on the night going towards the Sistergirls travel for this year's parade.
